Risk warning Trading on margin is high-risk and fits only part of an investment plan.

Login, Step by Step
Go to the FXCM website, click the Login button in the top right corner, and enter your email and password. You will land directly in your Trading Station or MT4 dashboard, ready to check your positions, deposit funds, or open a new trade.
If you are logging in from Uganda, a couple of extra steps may appear. The system might ask for a two-factor authentication (2FA) code sent to your phone or email. This is a standard safety measure that protects your account from unauthorised access, especially when you are using mobile money to fund your balance.
For most traders in Uganda, the entire login flow takes less than a minute. You just need your registered details and access to your email or phone for the verification code.
Your Account Dashboard
Once you are in, the dashboard gives you a snapshot of your trading day. You will see your account balance, which is usually denominated in USD, your open positions, and your margin level. If you have a swap-free account because you prefer Islamic trading conditions, that status shows up here too.
The layout is straightforward. Your recent trades are listed at the bottom, and your main actions - deposit, withdraw, and open a new trade - are always visible in the top menu. For a newcomer, the key number to watch is the margin level, expressed as a percentage. It tells you how much usable margin you have left compared to what you are using.
FXCM works on a single standard account model. Minimum deposit to open an account is USD 50. The platform supports FX majors, indices, commodities, shares, and crypto CFDs.
Forgot Password
Click the "Forgot Password" link on the login page. FXCM will send a reset link to your registered email address. The email usually arrives within a minute, but check your spam folder if it does not show up quickly. The reset link expires after a short window, typically 30 minutes, so use it right away.
Account Locked
After several failed login attempts, the system locks your account as a security precaution. This lock is temporary, usually lasting around 15 minutes. If you are still locked out after that, contact FXCM support to verify your identity and unlock it manually.
2FA Code Not Arriving
Check that you are looking at the correct email inbox or phone number registered to your account. If the code still does not arrive, use the "resend code" button. In rare cases, delayed SMS delivery happens with local Ugandan carriers, so email-based codes are often more reliable.
Security Checks Before You Trade
FXCM is a global broker founded in 1999, but it is not licensed by a Ugandan regulator. The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) Uganda has a framework for licensing online forex brokers under the CMA (Amendment) Act 2016, but it has not actually licensed any retail forex or CFD firms. Residents trade almost exclusively via offshore brokers regulated elsewhere (CySEC, FSCA, FCA, CMA Kenya).
Because of this, your security measures matter more. Use a strong, unique password for your FXCM account. Do not reuse the password from your email or mobile money app. Enable 2FA if it is offered. And never share your login details with anyone, including fake account managers who contact you on WhatsApp or Telegram offering "guaranteed" returns.

What Trading Costs Look Like
FXCM uses a spread-based pricing model with no commission on standard accounts. The average spread on GER40 hovers around 0.3 to 0.6 pips, while other major pairs start from roughly 0.8 pips.
| Fee Item | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Trading commission | USD 0 | Spread-only pricing |
| GER40 avg spread | 0.3-0.6 pips | Tradable on MT4, Trading Station |
| Other majors spread | From ~0.8 pips | Varies by market volatility |
| Minimum deposit | USD 50 | One standard account only |
| Swap fee (overnight) | Yes | Waived on swap-free/Islamic accounts |
The swap fee applies if you hold a position open overnight. A swap-free account waives this fee, which matters if you prefer Islamic trading conditions or if you hold positions for several days at a time.
For funding from Uganda, you typically use MTN Mobile Money or Airtel Money, plus bank wire and Visa/Mastercard. The accounts are USD-denominated, so your UGX gets converted at the prevailing rate. Mobile money deposits are usually processed in minutes; card and bank transfers take 1-5 business days. As an example, Exness mobile-money deposits have a ~USD 10 minimum and a per-transaction cap of ~USD 1,050.
Trading Platforms at Your Fingertips
FXCM supports MetaTrader 4 (MT4), its own Trading Station, and TradingView integration. There is no MT5.
- MT4 is the classic choice with custom indicators and automated trading via Expert Advisors.
- Trading Station is FXCM's proprietary web and desktop platform with a clean, visual interface.
- TradingView gives you direct charting with advanced drawing tools and a strong community.
All three platforms connect to the same account. You can open a trade on Trading Station on your desktop, then monitor it on the MT4 mobile app while you are out.
A Reality Check on Limits
The main constraint for Ugandan traders is the regulatory gap. When you trade with an offshore broker like FXCM, you do not have local recourse through CMA if a dispute arises. No CMA-mandated negative balance protection or product bans apply to offshore brokers. Your complaint would go through the broker's own dispute resolution or the foreign regulator's channels.
Tax obligations also sit on your shoulders. Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) treats regular trading profit as business income, taxed at progressive resident rates. As of FY Jul 2025-Jun 2026: 0% up to UGX 2,820,000; 10% on 2,820,001-4,020,000; 20% on 4,020,001-4,920,000; 30% on 4,920,001-120,000,000; plus a 40% surcharge above UGX 120,000,000. Uganda taxes residents on worldwide income, so offshore-broker profits are reportable. Obtain a Tax Identification Number (TIN) via the URA eTax portal. Rates as of the review; verify with URA.
Uganda has a liberalized/open capital account, so funding offshore accounts via mobile money, card or bank transfer is not restricted. Large cross-border cash must be declared at entry/exit, and banks apply AML/KYC and source-of-funds checks on large transfers.
Right for you if
You want a broker with a long track record and a simple pricing model. FXCM has operated since 1999 and offers a single standard account with commission-free trading and tight spreads. If you trade actively on GER40, this cost structure works in your favour. The swap-free option also covers Islamic traders who need to avoid paying or receiving interest.
Not for you if
You prefer to trade on MT5 or you want the reassurance of a locally licensed broker in Uganda. FXCM does not offer MT5, and no retail forex/CFD broker currently holds a CMA licence because the framework exists on paper but no broker is licensed in practice. If local regulatory oversight is your top priority, verify the track record of brokers regulated by authorities like the FCA or CySEC rather than relying on any local licensing status.
Questions
What if I forget my FXCM password?
Click the "Forgot Password" link on the login screen. FXCM sends a reset link to your registered email address. Use it within 30 minutes, then set a new password. If you do not see the email, check your spam folder.
Why is my FXCM account locked?
The system locks your account after too many failed login attempts, usually as a temporary measure lasting about 15 minutes. If you are still locked out after that, contact FXCM support to verify your identity and regain access.
Does FXCM require two-factor authentication for login?
FXCM strongly encourages 2FA and it is available for accounts. When enabled, you will need to enter a code from an authenticator app or SMS after entering your password. This adds an extra layer of protection, which is wise given the regulatory gap in Uganda.
